All Music is Manipulated Tape
For the last several months, Rinus van Alebeek and Anton Mobin have put together a performance series, spanning several European cities, called “Tales for Tapes” which were/are “live events dedicated to tape manipulation”. Final Cut’s contribution at theseventh installment also makes up Wandering Ear’s release, Tales for Tapes #7. Specializing in processed field recordings, he begins this sound exhibition with tape being wound quickly forward or backward alerting the listener of his intention as well as his center. Final Cut’s use of “standard” field recordings such as music boxes, voices, repetitive machinery and footsteps, along with his production techniques and ear produce something much more than a field recording, its more of a distinct musical performance.
